If you work in fashion production or design, odds are you have loads of fabric lying around your office. Multiply that by every brand on this planet and it’s no wonder textile waste is one of the largest contributing factors to the fashion industry’s waste problem. Well we are here to help. Here’s the quick and easy checklist to sell your fabric liability today.
1 | Take stock of inventory
What do you have? How much of it is there? What are you willing to sell it for? We recommend starting a handy excel like the one pictured below to get started. Include columns for:
-thumbnail of fabric -name -material breakdown -color -cut width -total yardage -price
2 | Apply to sell your fabric
We’ve created a handy application to get you started. This allows us to assess your stock and see if it’s a good fit for our platform. You can apply here. We will respond quickly with a contract detailing our terms & conditions (stuff our lawyers make us say).
3 | Get high res images
Great photos sell product. Period. Read How To Take Great Photos of Your Fabric Liability to kick ass at this yourself. Want to skip this step? Hire a photography student to come in and knock this out in one afternoon. No artistry skill is needed here, just great lighting and editing. Use our existing listings on Deadstock District as an image guide.
4 | Send your photos & fabric info
Send over a file with the images for each fabric (at least one detail and one wide shot) and corresponding excel sheet with fabric information and pricing. We will be asking for this anyways, might as well be prepared.
5 | Wait and drop ship
Get back to your job. We list your fabric liability for you on Deadstock District and announce new additions to our followers and subscribers. We will send you a shipping label when your fabric sells. All you’ll need to do is pack your fabric, stick the label to the box, and drop it at your nearest post office.
6 | Collect money
We will send you the money from your sale, minus shipping, taxes & fees, and our 10% commission fee. Pour that additional money into anywhere your budget needs it and rest easy knowing you are officially doing your part to better our industry!
