There's a lot of interest in ethical and sustainable fashion these days, but far fewer jobs to fill the demand. This problem comes more into view when you consider that many companies are losing great, passionate employees because the company is unwilling to meet their need for a more meaningful impact in their career. Before you get frustrated searching for a new position, start circulating the local ethical & sustainable fashion events. Get to know people in the space. Ask them about their background, what they love and struggle with in this niche? Learn Start subscribing to Google Alerts to "Ethical Fashion" and "Sustainable Fashion". Google will deliver you news from the interwebs on the reg so you can keep abreast on what's going on as well as learn more about things you probably don't know like textile science, water waste and what that means, labor standards, and what brands are actually making moves to be better. FIT also has a great sustainability certification that our team member N'Djamena completed and speaks very highly of for really cutting your teeth in this space. Volunteer Everyone has free time to allocate towards something they love. Consider joining on a volunteer capacity with a start up team who has a mission you love. You will gain priceless insight into the struggles of moving this big industry in a more positive direction AND you'll be first in line to be hired as the company grows. Most of the original interns at TOMS are still there and now have C-level positions because they took a chance on a company they believed in. BTW - THR3EFOLD has volunteer positions available. Apply There are some big guys in this space: Eileen Fisher, PVH (sustainability team), Mara Hoffman, and Maiyet some hire often, some not so much. But it's worth keeping an eye out for what's coming up. But it's true there's not many jobs posted often for jobs specifically in ethics and sustainability so be patient and work your other angles.
