Definitely click on over and order yourself an issue today, you won’t be disappointed. The Global Goals On a joint mission to end extreme poverty, inequality, and climate change, 193 world leaders sat down in September 2015 to create 17 Global Goals. This clear and focused road map will allow governments, businesses, and citizens to work together to accomplish this goal by 2030. Where does fashion come in? Here’s 17 ways fashion can be doing our part to move that needle and end extreme injustice around the world. 1 | All Workers Paid Fair Wages Having an income that supports your life, is life changing. If brands would only work with factories who pay their workers fair wages, this would be the most significant and immediate shift in most of the global goals. This is because when you are paid enough, you are able to properly manage your finances to keep your family fed, healthy, and educated. Furthermore, you are building local economies which creates a cycle of economic sustainability. Global Goals Affected: 2 | Be Focused in Mission FEED is a great example of how a laser focused brand on a mission can create change. Every purchase clearly signifies how many meals this purchase will provide to children and families in need. Even though these issues may seem incredibly overwhelming, we can all do ONE thing, and by keeping our head down and staying our course, that one thing can have great impact. Global Goals Affected: 3 | Running Sustainably Since fashion is the second largest polluting industry on the planet, by shifting the way we source and function across the industry will have a massive shift in the carbon footprint we create. Sourcing organic fabrics, recycling old fabrics and products, operating as zero waste companies and utilizing the latest technologies to reduce water waste and increase solar energy consumption are some of the big ways we can make a change. Global Goals Affected: We must recognize the power we wield as both an individual company and a collective industry to join together and stand up for what is right. When you think about the fact that 795 million people around the world are hungry, there’s no point in even trying to make a dent. However, if you remember each number in that count represents one person, you can recognize that you have the ability to feed one person, you can rightfully employ one person, you can empower one person, and when we all take our part for that one person, many people’s lives are changed for good.
