By Jessica Kelly | Founder & CEO | THR3EFOLD We all love, love. We love talking about it, and we love being in it, but sometimes I wonder, are we willing to work for it? Because past the glitter, hearts, and glorious chocolate goodies we celebrate Valentine’s Day with, love, actual love, is a lot harder. It involves commitment, compromise, and setting aside yourself for someone else, which is not something our culture understands or values. So I thought, in honor of Valentine’s Day, I’d do a post to make us pause and consider how we can get our hands dirty, loving people. 1 | Instead of Broadcasting, Personally Deliver
I love Instagram (you’re welcome to follow mine @j3ssicak3lly), but often I have to challenge myself when browsing my feed. How much is this perfectly curated visual inspiration helping the people in my life feel valued and special? Why not start setting a daily reminder to tell someone in your life exactly WHY you love them? The special things that make them a shining light to you and others. You can even get really bold and pick up the phone and call them rather than texting, or catch up over coffee or dinner and tell them in person (gasp)! 2 | Instead of Donating, Volunteer Donating money to organizations is great, and there are some really great organizations out there doing hard work for people in need 365 days a year, well beyond natural disasters and political opportunity. But, when is the last time you carved out a Saturday morning to actually help further a cause that’s close to your heart? If you’re passionate about the environment, have you cleaned up your neighborhoods, highways, or parks? If you’re passionate about homelessness, have you started building shelters or giving your time to hear their stories and give them value? If you’re burdened by extreme poverty, have you booked a trip to go roll up your sleeves (get literally dirty) and provide food, clothing, and care, dish out hugs and laughter, and come alongside them to further their hopes and dreams? I wholeheartedly ensure this will change your life forever. 3 | Instead of Being Touched, Be Moved The current climate we are in politically on a national and global scale is changing and tough for a lot of people. Sometimes it’s first world problems (but that’s ok because we live in the first world), and sometimes it’s severe injustices. But, if something is really pressing on your soul, you will not feel better (in fact you will only feel heartbroken and bitter) unless you begin to take that change into your own hands. GET YOUR HANDS DIRTY! It was for this reason that I started THR3EFOLD. I had traveled the world volunteering and seen injustice I couldn’t ignore. But what to do about it? I decided to go deep, and battle the virus in our supply chain right down at the root. Fashion is the LARGEST labored industry in the world and everyone consumes it. AND most of our manufacturing is executed in the areas of the world with the most need. Some people choose to see this as a reason to abandon ship and move everything inside our borders where we can control it, but I can only see it as opportunity screaming to be utilized properly. By making intentional decisions about how we run our businesses, who we employ at every level, and what we stand for in the little daily decisions we make, we can truly change the world. But we have to be committed to getting our hands dirty to do it.
